The Piano in Partnerships (PIP) is a New Haven Connecticut based group of musicians who have come together to explore the extensive literature for piano in combination with strings, voice and winds.

In celebration of this music PIP is presenting a three day workshop for interested amateur pianists, instrumentalists, and singers.


The PIP faculty

Sara Laimon pianist and co-director
Active in both solo and chamber music, Sara has performed across Canada and the United States, in India and Nepal for the U.S. Information Agency and often on radio. She is currently Assistant Professor of Piano at the Yale School of Music.
Born in Vancouver, Sara is a graduate of the Vancouver Academy of Music, the University of British Columbia, Yale School of Music and SUNY-Stony Brook where she received a DMA under Gilbert Kalish.

Rebecca Raffaelli pianist and co-director
Ms. Raffaelli has performed solo and chamber music concerts in Europe and the U.S. and has recorded music of Dianne Goolkasian Rahbee. During the last nine years, Rebecca has designed and conducted ongoing piano performance workshops for adults in the New Haven area. Currently, she teaches privately and on the teaching faculty of Choate-Rosemary Hall.
A native of Texarkana, Texas, she holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Applied Piano from Boston University where she studied with Leonard Shure.

Judy Rowitsch violist
Ms. Rowitsch is a member of the Bridgeport, Waterbury, and Wallingford symphonies and performs regularly with the New Haven and Hartford symphonies. She is currently the Chairperson of the Theory Department at the Neighborhood Music School and has coached its NMS Premier Ensemble for the past ten years.
She received her undergraduate degree in viola performance form Oberlin College and her MM from Temple University

Wendy Sharp violinist
For nearly a decade, Wendy Sharp was the first violinist of the Franciscan String Quartet. She has served on the faculties of Dartmouth College, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Westport School of Music. She is currently a member of the Mannes College of Music faculty teaching violin and chamber music and is coaching chamber music at the Yale School of Music.
A native of San Francisco, she attended Yale University and received her MM from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

final recital and reception
We recognize that many applicants may be uncomfortable with performing in a final recital. Our goal is to provide a supportive and relaxed environment for the joy of sharing chamber music, so this recital will not be open to the public.

*these events are open to auditors


Registration and Fees

The cost for the workshop is $195, which includes a non-refundable $15 application fee. In order to assign music in advance, we request completed applications by April 15. The $180 tuition fee is refundable until May 15. Limited scholarships are available based on need. Please include a letter if you would like to apply for scholarship assistance.

AUDITORS are invited to attend the master classes (including open rehearsal) and the faculty concert for a fee of $25, or individual activities for $10. If overnight accommodations are required, please let us know so that we may assist you.

All workshop activities will take place on the campus of Yale University.

An audition for placement is optional, either by tape or in person.
