We will meet in the charming Languedoc town of Roujan, where we will be the guests of arts publicist Nicola Russell and sculptor Teddy Hutton, in their lovely grand village home La Maison Verte. The home overlooks a vast private courtyard and two acres of well-stocked gardens, including a newly built swimming pool and private parting. The property is unusual: in the hub of a thriving village with a population of 5,000, it remains totally private and secluded.
Built in the 1830's, La Maison Verte was the biggest and most important house in the village. It produced over half a million liters of wine each year and stored them in the massive wine barns adjoining the main house. We will sample some regional wine each day with our meals, which are included during our week. We can usually eat in the garden, bordered by a small vineyard and a large courtyard surrounded by fig, lime and mulberry trees. The house has its own able tennis, boules, swings and trapezes, and numerous bicycles.
We will lay chamber music for several hours each day, and still have ample time to explore the beautiful area around the Mediterranean, the Camargue, Narbonne, Cap D'Agde, Beziers, Séte and Montpellier. Other sight-seeing places for day trips include Nimes, Arles, Avignon, Orange and Toulouse. In the evenings we can play some larger chamber works together in the rehearsal and workshop spaces next to the house.
'Cello and doublebass rental may be possible with prior notice. We welcome all instruments for which we have chamber music, but unfortunately there is no piano at La Maison Verte.
To reach Roujan, you can arrive via TGV high speed train from Paris or London to Beziers (18 km) or Montpellier, or fly to Montpellier Airport, which is a 50 minute drive. Barcelona is 3 hours away by car.
