Do join us for a new workshop at Torre Cabrera in the rugged and beautiful mountains north of Mojacar, Spain. This week will be coached by members of a dynamic young Spanish quartet, the Cuarteto Almus, and violinist Margherita Marseglia. These musicians are active in Spanish musical life as both performers and teachers, and in fact have had many successful concert tours throughtout Spain and Europe. We will be joined by Spanish musicians at this mountain retreat, not far from the sea, and set in a great natural park of singular beauty. Riding, tennis, swimming, hiking, bike riding and canoeing are all available. Or you can just relax between playing session and drink in the natural beauty and serenity of the area. Malaga airport is not far.

Instruction will be in both Spanish and English. Every participant will work in coached sessions each day. People wishing to come in pre-formed groups are welcome to do so. Notification of works to be prepared will be made at least 1 month prior to the workshop. Cello rental for people traveling from abroad can be arranged with sufficient notice. Participants should bring their own music stands.

Join us for our sixth return trip to a wonderful old stone farm in the Ardèche Cratoule at Issirac, owned by Nicole and Steve Ayrton, a charming Swiss-English couple who have turned their home into an inviting, cozy center for playing chamber music amongst friends, with each other and for each other. After a glorious week last year, we will again return at the autumn grape harvest season.

Comfortable but simple accommodations are in single or shared rooms. All meals are provided, and you won't be disappointed in the wonderful regional cooking of Provence. Explore Nîmes, Arles and Avignon, which are each an hour's drive away, or nearby Orange, with its Roman amphitheater, and the exciting Ardèche Gorge. Or enjoy walking the hills and valleys of the Ardèche closer to home.

The rhythm of the days in Cratoule will include playing in assigned groups each morning, a full lunch cooked for us by Provençal neighbor and master chef Laurent, with afternoons free for more playing or exploring the countryside, as you choose. In the evenings, after dinner, we can play together again, possibly larger chamber works. Laurent has agreed this year to do cooking lessons with a few of us who may not be playing music,. If this interests you, please be sure to indicate it on your application..

The house has a lovely grand piano in a charming large room for playing, several other pianos in smaller rooms, and a harpsichord. Lots of room to get together in groups, or to spread out in the various connected buildings and patios. 'Cello rental is possible. And best of all, there is a wonderful, full chamber music library and plenty of music stands at our disposal.

In late Se[ptember we can travel to one of the most beautiful, but little traveled, towns in the Marche region of Italy, Ripatransone. This region is described in the Cadogan Guide as "one of the greenest, prettiest, and most civilized corners of Italy, with two lovely Renaissance art towns in Urbino and Ascoli Piceno, lots of beaches, and scores of fine old towns... the marches offer (the beauties of Tuscany and Umbria), new emarald landscapes and hill towns, new discoveries at the table, new surprises from the Renaissance, and fewer tourists to share them with." In fact, from Ripatransone the beaches of the Adriatic are just 12 km. away at San Benedetto del Tronto. Ascoli Piceno is not much further. But Ripatransone, which dates from 1571, is a historic and architectural gem itself, with only 5,000 inhabitants who live within the medieval walls and towers, among the churches, patrician buildings and museums brimming with culture. We will even see the narrowest street in Italy, only 43 cm. wide.

Introduced to this lovely place by my friend, pianist Don Cornell, we will stay in a beautiful old convent. Our meals and comfort will be provided by the Sisters and Mother Superior Maria Pia de Angelis. Playing rooms are spacious and provided with several pianos. And sleeping accommodations, in 12 rooms with private baths and others with shared baths, are very comfortable. We weill spend several hours each day playing music together, but we will ceertainly have time to explore the area as well. Participants should bring their own music stands.

There is public transportation to Ripatransone from Rome, and it is only half a day's drive by car. If there are sufficient numbers of people, we may be able to arrange group transport from Rome airport. To the north of Ripatransone, Ancona is served by Ryan Air from the UK.
