Philadelphia Amateur Chamber Music Players
1999 - 2000 Season
Are you an amateur string player who would like to play chamber music with other amateurs for your own enjoyment, learn the literature and grow in your musicianship? If so, then come join us, the Philadelphia Amateur Chamber Music Players (PACMP).
We are currently recruiting string players for the 1999-2000 millenium season and
you would be a welcome addition to our group.
- Who are we: PACMP has been in existence for over ten years, and for a while was the only organized amateur chamber music facility in the Philadelphia area. Now we are a group of 35-40 amateur musicians who play together from September through May (nine sessions.)
- Where: At the Jenkintown Branch of Settlement Music School - 515 Meeting House Road, Jenkintown. On-site parking is available.
- When: On Saturday afternoons, once a month from 12:30 PM until 4:00 PM. We break for refreshments and socializing about 2:15, then resume playing.
- Costs: For the full year (approx. nine sessions): $40.00 Individual sessions are $9.00 each.
- Prerequisites: You should be, at the very least, at an intermediate technical level, and have had some chamber music experience; be able to sight-read the music literature, e.g., Haydn and Mozart quartets. There are no formal auditions. You will be interviewed verbally. We will get to know you, and you us.
- How we work: Each month members receive a notice of the forthcoming Session. If you wish to play, you will return a form - 2 weeks prior to the Session - in order to be scheduled/assigned with a group. Every effort is made to match players of similar capabilities and experience. Each player should bring: Instrument, music stand and quartet music. If you are assigned to other than a string quartet - music will be provided. Sight-reading is the order of the day. Players are informed of their groups at a short meeting prior to play time. This has worked well - due to the usual changes during the two weeks prior to a session.
- So, why should you join us? SIX good reasons:
- An opportunity to meet new amateur chamber music players.
- A wonderful opportunity to improve your sight-reading.
- Improve your adaptability to new playing situations.
- Increase your knowledge of the entire chamber music literature String trios, quartets, quintets, sextets; piano trios, quartets, quintets; and string/wind combinations, and with double bass.
- Socially you'll have a wonderful time with us. Our members are interesting and friendly people - from all walks of life.
- The cost is minimal.
- Contacts: For further information, please contact: Sara Zallman: 610-896-3781, or Tom Angell: 215-659-4250 (Please do not call the Settlement School.)
